Running Colors Farm is owned and operated by Jamie and Dr. Wendy Howard.  The Howard's    come from South Dakota farming and ranching families - making their living off of the land and using horses to do so.   Jamie's family has farmed and raised livestock in eastern South Dakota for four generations and Wendy's family farmed & cattle ranched in the western end of the state.   Wendy's parents both rodeoed as young adults and, in fact, her mother earned the title of National High School Barrel Racing Champion on her self-trained gelding.   Having the same appreciation of animals, especially good horses, was a major factor in Wendy's decision to become a veterinarian.   She is employed by Sturgis Veterinary Hospital where her concentration is in small animal medicine and equine reproduction.

As the name implies, the Howard's are breeders of SPEED-BRED PAINT HORSES . The love of horses comes through their lineage, but the appreciation of well-bred running horses comes from their studies and the desire to produce a quality horse that will excel as an athlete in multiple areas. Their goal is to produce quality running-bred Paint horses, through out-crossing to Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred sprinters, which can excel on the racetrack and perform in the arena.  This, of course, takes horses with speed and soundness but correct conformation and good minds are essential.
